Young age persons within the age group of 13-35 years constitute 50 percent of the total population in India. Such youth force must be capitalized for fostering our country's growth and development and also necessary to involve them in a variety of modern interventions and programmes to address emerging challenges. Therefore Government of India (GOI) launching National Youth Volunteers Scheme also known as the voluntary national youth corps under the administrative control of the Department of youth affairs wherein young volunteers were enrolled on a full time basis for participating in youth based activities.

Eligibility Conditions for Enrollment as NYC Volunteer:

Qualification:

A minimum of class 10th pass eligible. Preference in selection will be given to the following.

  • Candidates having higher educational qualifications and knowledge of computer application and aptitude in social work and voluntarism.
  • Member of National Youth Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) affiliated youth clubs in general and members of mentor youth clubs.

Age:

Minimum 18 years and maximum 29 years as on Ⅰst April of the year of registration.

Applying Process:

Every year month of March District Youth Officer released notification through posting notices and giving wide publicity and inviting applications for national youth volunteer registration can be available both online and offline.

Any young person aspiring to enroll as a volunteer in a offline mode must submit their application to the respective District youth Officers of NYKS.

Selection Process:

13,206 volunteers shall be taken into civic engagement for a period of one year which may be extendable for a maximum of one more year based on the performance of the volunteer as recommended by the selection committee without any exam. If there is a decrease in the strength of volunteers during their deployment, the shortfall would be addressed by using a reserve list, which was prepared at the time of their selection.

Selection Committee:

The below selection committee is constituted for selecting candidates for two years duration of deployment based on their education, interests and relevant skills. Shortlisted candidates invited for interviews. Those members are:

  • (a) Deputy Commissioner or District Collector ‒ Chairperson
  • (b) Two eminent persons in the field of youth/Social/Education field ‒ Members
  • (c) District Youth Officers of NYK ‒ Convener
  • (d) NYK's affiliated youth clubs, volunteers with past experience in NYKS/NSS ‒ Other Members

Training Process:

NYKS will be organized two types of training to selected volunteers within the period of two years. One is in-house induction training in the month of April of the year of deployment, which is undergoing a two weeks duration and the another one is an orientation programe also called as refresher training for a period of 7 days. After completion of training, volunteers will be entitled to a grant of 12 days of casual leave each year.

Termination Process:

They can be disengaged by a notice of one month if he/she breaches terms and conditions or the work of volunteers is not found satisfactory by the deploying agency.

Honorarium:

Volunteers will receive an honorarium of Rs 5000 rupees per month as long as their period of engagement, which includes TA. However, the monthly salary will be determined based on the online attendance marked by the concerned Kendra.

Services:

Duties and responsibilities of volunteers assigned by the competent authority. Hence, every volunteer shall submit a report to his/her immediate supervisor. The concerned district NYK will upload the activities report on NYKS/NYC portal. Here are some ways in which they can get involved and executed government programes without misfire.

Youth volunteers active involvement in the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan program contributing to cleaning up public spaces, and conveying the importance of cleanliness among the civic.

(4). Health and Well-being:

Youth volunteers will identify low immunization areas and referring them "Mission Indradhanush" scheme to reduce diseases, and promote healthy lifestyles through health check-up camps and the importance of the International Yoga Day program. On the other hand motivated girls and their parents to postpone her marriage till attaining 18 years.

(5). Advocacy and Awareness:

They may engage in overcome various obstacles and difficulties on social issues like poverty alleviation, gender equality, mental health etc.

(6). Environmental Conservation:

National youth volunteers might participate in ecology conservation to protect and preserve natural ecosystems such as sapling plantation and their survival, collection of polythene bags, and eradication of weeds in villages.

(7). Disaster Relief:

In the wake of natural contingency, youth volunteers involving in various aspects of relief work such as providing food and groceries, setting up shelters, and assisting with clean-up places.

(8). Strength in Unity:

They can linking youth clubs and mahila mandal members with employable skill development trainings and help to formation of SHGs etc.
